I need to be eating healthier but I can’t seem to do it or I do it for a little while but I can’t seem to stick with it. But the biggest reason is that you’re doing too much at one time.
And so here’s a quick little trick. This is actually gonna help trick yourself into eating healthier and you’re not even going to realize it. So the first thing is is to start with just one piece of your nutrition and that is the easiest thing you could fix.
Protein Matters For Healthy Eating
In the past 10 years that I’ve been a coach, the biggest thing that I’ve seen is people don’t eat enough protein like drastically don’t eat enough protein. So if you weigh 150 pounds depending on your activity level but you should be somewhere between 120 to 130 grams of protein.
You could potentially be at 150 grams depending on your activity level. Most people are only getting like maybe 40 to 60 and that’s way too low. So the first thing that I would say is start on your protein.
Keeping It Simple
Instead of saying, I’m gonna meal prep for the entire week say what’s the easiest way that I can add in protein. Now you have just one task to do, add protein.
Now all we have to do is for the next two weeks I am going to add protein into my breakfast. Now you have your one task and timeline to stick to it.
Now we need to figure out when to move onto the next step. I recommend using a 1-10 point scale. 10 being we absolutely crushed it, and 1 being we did not do it at all.
The 80% Rule For Success
To be able to move onto the next step, we have to be successful 11 out of 14 days. For a successful day, we want to be at an 8 out of 10 for the day.
So 80% of the time you need to have done 80% well if that makes sense. When you can hit an eight out of 10 score for 11 days out of your 14 that you’re gonna do this then you move on to the next step.
You build from one goal to the next and then to the next as long as you continue to be successful in that two week window. This may seem like it takes a while to change your life, but do you want the quick fix or the life long change?
If you struggle to get that 80% success rate in, no worries that means you need to focus on that one habit a little bit longer. So another two weeks you’d work on the same habit and you continually do that until you finally hit it.
Eating Healthier Happens By Starting Small
Don’t start with the hardest thing, start with the easiest thing. Look at what’s the one thing that I could do today that would allow me to get started today.
Start easy and build wins. When you get down the road and things get a lot harder, not only will you have confidence but you’ve also built up an understanding of how to pick the right goals.
